Brazil becoming favorite offshore site for Indian IT, BPO majors
Brazil seems to be turning out to be a favorite offshoring location for major Indian IT and BPO service providers. While Infosys Technologies Ltd., India’s second largest IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) firm, had opened a development center in Brazil last week to provide assistance to its customers in the Latin American nation and also the subsidiaries of global clients in Brazil, on Thursday, Wipro Ltd. announced the setting up of its international deliverance hub at Curitiba in Brazil.
Quoting a press release issued by India’s third largest software exporter and BPO service vendor in terms of revenue, a website reported that Wipro has set up an international deliverance center at Curitiba with a view to service its international as well as near-shore patrons. While a global IT service providing center of Wipro is already operational in Brazil from 2006, the new hum will facilitate the firm to expand its operations worldwide.
The release said that the new delivery center at Curitiba will function as the area head office of Wipro for all its establishments situated all over Latin America – especially its offices at Buenos Aires in Argentina and Sao Paulo in Brazil. Currently, the new center employs 350 personnel and will provide IT as well as BPO services for approximately 20 customers. The company has stated that it attaches great importance to Brazil from the point of its domestic as well as global business. According to the company’s director for the Latin American region, Mr. Fernando Estrazulas, Wipro is hopeful that it local as well as international clients would be able to reap the benefits from its innovative solutions, quality processes and international delivery mode.
Meanwhile, development center opened by Infosys at Belo Horizonte in Brazil is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company called Infosys Technologia Do Brasil. The development center in Brazil is the third one of its kind opened by the company in Latin America – the first two being located in Mexico. Infosys chief executive and managing director Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan said that the company is in the process of making new investments in Latin America with a view to make its position stronger in the region as well as take advantage of the near-shore operations for its international clients located in the same time zone.
