Capgemini to recruit 7,000 more professionals in India, acquires Swedish firm
Buoyed by the potent growth opportunities in India, globally leading IT services and business consultancy firm Capgemini intends to hire an additional 7,000 professionals in the country by the year-end. Incidentally, the global IT services major has already recruited as many as 10,000 people in India during this year.
An online report quotes Salil Parekh, executive chairman of Capgemini India, as saying that the company has already recruited 10,000 people till July 2010 and they intend to hire an additional 7,000 people this year. Emphasizing on the significance of the group’s strategy vis-à-vis the growth of the Indian market, Parekh said that the India arm of his company is a vital resource center to deliver Capgemini’s Rightshore model. In addition, India is also the major innovation center for the multinational IT services provider, he added.
Capgemini India executive chairman further stated that the Indian domestic market has also witnessed plenty of toehold and they had increased an additional 40 clients during the past 18 months. Keeping in view the volume of growth, the company has decided to accelerate the hiring process to provide services to the new clients, Parekh said substantiating Capgemini’s move to hire more people in India this year.
It may be noted here that the employee strength of the company, which has offices in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune, was around 26,000 in June 2010. In all, Capgemini has its presence is over 30 countries and employs as many as 95,000 professionals across the world.
New Acquisition
Meanwhile, another report says that the multinational IT services and business consultancy provider has recently acquired Skvader Systems AB, a Swedish IT and BPO firm focused on providing smart meter deployment as well as smart meter managed business services. As per the terms of the contract, Capgemini will take over a software solution developed by the Swedish firm to prop up the company’s managed business services clients.
Skvader is among the delivery collaborators of Landis+Gyr, a foremost firm that offers integrated energy management solutions, in its contract for the setting up and administration of 400,000 meters in Sweden at E.O.N., a power and gas company. Henceforth, this will become a subsidiary of the Smart Energy Services business of Capgemini. Consequently, it will enable Capgemini to expand its share in the smart energy market in Sweden as well as Europe.
