Infosys BPO executive quits
Infosys BPO's CEO Amitabh Chaudhry is leaving the IT firm for a more senior post in an insurance company, reports said.
The man behind growing Infosys BPO to $250 million in revenue submitted his resignation to the company, according to an Economic Times of India interview with an Infosys BPO spokesman.
A report by Business Standard said that Chaudry was understood to be moving to HDFC Standard Life Insurance for a higher position, which was not specified as of yet.
Infosys' BPO executive replaced Akshaya Bhargava to head its business in 2005. Since then, he became an influential leader in a number of strategic initiatives such as the recent acquisition of McCamish Systems worth $38 million. He has helped boost the company's revenues 72 percent during his tenure.
However, Infosys BPO's employees were trimmed down to 16,033 from around 17,327 last year.
The IT services provider's revenues from back office business also declined marginally during the September quarter to $71.3 million from $72.5 million year-on-year.
Chaudhry entered Infosys BPO, formerly called Progeon, in 2003 as the company's head of transition. He was then promoted as the chief operating officer of the company in 2005 before he climbed the CEO post in March 2006.
He a graduate of engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology & Science and earned his MBA degree in Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. He has worked for financial institutions before joining Infosys.
Chaudhry was also hinted as a likely replacement to Kris Gopalakrishnan as Infosys' President and CEO.
