Infosys Establishes 2nd Nearshore Development Site in Mexico

Indian outsourcing giant, Infosys Technologies has opened its second development site in Monterrey, Mexico. The base will serve as a nearshore unit for serving North America, Europe and Latin America.

This new development facility will offer its clients technology services in areas like financial services, banking, retail, manufacturing, distribution and insurance. In addition to that, other industries will also benefit from the resource, Infosys said in a notice.

Senior VP at Infosys, Ashok Vemuri said in a statement that the outsourcing firm now has 330 professionals and 30 clients. This is in stark contrast to the company's first development center that debuted with just a few clients and a handful of staff, reports The Economic Times.

Infosys selected Mexico as its nearshore development center for a variety of factors. When it looked at several nations in the Central American region, Infosys decided to establish additional presence in Mexico primarily because of the availability of language skills in Mexico. Another contributing factor to choosing Mexico was its nearness to Canada, Europe and the U.S.

In a related news story, a top official at Infosys said the back-office segment of India's number two provider of software services is seeking to acquire European companies and those in the U.S., in the range from $50 million to $100 million. Along with the acquisition, Infosys BPO is also seeking to hire about 1,200 employees in this financial year, according to an Economic Times report. Insosys BPO's CEO Amitabh Chaudhry, was speaking to reporters when he made the announcement at the World Economic Forum.
