Infosys to expand Philippine BPO operations

India's outsourcing firm Infosys BPO Ltd. announced its expansion plans in the Philippines by setting up another facility here and adding its workforce to 3,000 over the next two years, reports said.

Business World quoted Infosys BPO CEO Ritesh Idnani as saying that they are planning to open a new facility by the later part of 2010 or the early part of next year to accommodate the company's expanded operations.

Three major business districts in the Philippines are being considered as the next Infosys BPO site in the Philippines including Quezon City and Clark free port.

Infosys BPO operates in 13 delivery centers across the globe, including three of them in Asia Pacific. Among its services are contact center and customer services, and also legal process, accounting, finance outsourcing. Most of its clients are US-based.

In its Philippine site, Infosys runs around seven companies. The BPO firm earned $316.2-million revenue for 2008-2009 fiscal year, with 8- to 10-percent contribution from the Philippines.

Idnani also said that the expansion here would increase their 650-employee base to 3,000 within the next two years. Upon reaching this significant volume of employees, there would be a more rapid growth, he added.

Apart from contact center representatives, Infosys BPO is also in need of lawyers. Idnani mentioned that they are in search of 700 lawyers since legal process outsourcing is the company's fastest-developing practice.

The BPO industry in the Philippines was able to earn $7.2 billion in revenues with employment growing up to 442,000 last year. This was an indication of a 19-percent growth over $6.06-billion revenue from the previous year. The industry targets a $9-billion revenue growth or 26-percent growth for 2010 as Philippine outsourcing attracts more markets.
