Mattel to outsource IT work worth $20 million to Wipro

The world’s largest toymaker in terms of revenues, Mattel Inc. has decided to outsource its IT infrastructure management job to leading India’s third largest IT and BPO service vendor in terms of export earnings, Wipro Infotech. According to a report published in a business website, the contract is likely to be to the tune of $20 million.

While authorities at Wipro Infotech have not confirmed the precise extent of the agreement, industry experts are of the view that the deal may perhaps be around $20 million or even a smaller amount. However, the experts said that considering the size of Mattel, the deal will offer immense potential to Wipro.

In fact, Mattel Inc. is not only the largest toy manufacturer worldwide in terms of revenue, but the company also owns some of the extremely popular toy brands, including Hot Wheels and Barbie.

Meanwhile, Mattel Inc. has officially declared that the outsourcing of IT work to Wipro Infotech would result in the loss of some employment since the work that is now being processed at the company’s Phoenix Technology Centre was being outsourced. The toymaker, however, refused to provide details regarding the precise number of jobs that will be lost and the specific departments of the company that would be affected owing to the outsourcing deal with Wipro Infotech, saying that they are still in the process of working out the details of the transaction with the Indian IT and BPO major.
