MphasiS to set up global delivery hub in Sri Lanka
Leading Indian IT and BPO service provider MphasiS will set up an international delivery center in Colombo in Sri Lanka with a view to increase the firm’s global presence. The company has already entered into an agreement to establish the delivery hub at a cost of $3.5 million to offer IT-enabled services (ITeS).
At the outset, the MphasiS will employ 500 people at its new global delivery hub that will be an addition to the BPO firm’s set-up of international delivery centers offering applications and business process outsourcing (BPO) and infrastructure technology outsourcing (ITO) facilities to its customers across the globe. The global delivery center will be operational by mid-2010 and eventually have employee strength of 2000. MphasiS staff at its global delivery center in Colombo will belong to the MphasiS ‘Global Talent Pool’ and be tutored according to the ‘MphasiS Talent Development Program’.
Quoting a news release issued by MphasiS, with around 34,000 employees is the seventh largest IT and BPO vendor in India having centers in North America, Europe, China, Singapore, Australia and Japan, a website reports that the firm is committed to working towards utilizing as well as foster the local aptitude of the country. The Indian BPO firm will work in tandem with the Sri Lanka government as well as the local academic circles to emphasize on developing a faculty team that is ready to serve the industry.
It may be mentioned here that the Board of Investment (BOI) in Sri Lanka has been aggressively active in supporting the IT, BPO and KPO sector in the country as well as to match the increasing IT and BPO sector in neighboring India utilizing the high literacy rate of the country in the South Asian region.
