Top three Indian IT firms hire 20,000 personnel during Q4
All three leading Indian IT and BPO service providers Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro have recruited more than 20,000 employees during the period between January and March 2010 with the state of business perked up and providing a thrust their hiring plans. A business website reports that HR experts in the industry have forecast a huge leap in recruitment by the IT and ITeS (IT enabled services) during the current year, and the big three in the Indian IT sector have already set the tempo in this direction.
Altogether, the three major Indian IT firms – TCS, Infosys and Wipro, have added 20,014 people to their existing workforce during the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year ending on March 31, 2010. IT major Infosys hired the maximum number of employees – 9,313 people, during the period. However, the net addition to the company’s workforce was only 3,914 after taking the issue of attrition into account. However, the new recruitments increased the entire workforce of Infosys and its auxiliaries to 1,13,796 personnel as on March 31, 2010.
The largest Indian IT firm in terms of export revenue earnings, Tata Consultancy Services hired as many as 10,775 employees during the fourth quarter of 2009-2010 financial year enhancing the total workforce of the company to 1,60,429 as on March 31, 2010. Actually, the pace of recruitment gathered momentum from the third quarter of the 2009-2010 fiscal when the IT major had recruited 7,692 personnel, in comparison to only 320 staffing during the corresponding period in 2008-2009 fiscal.
On the other hand, Wipro, the country’s third largest IT and BPO services provider added a net of 5,325 employees during the fourth quarter of 2009-2010 fiscal augmenting its employee strength to 1,08,071.
The latest survey conducted by TeamLease Services Pvt. Limited, a recruitment firm, says that driven by a progressive business stance, the Indian IT firms are more and more optimistic regarding their employment plans in nearly all the sectors during the period between April and June 2010. According to HR experts in the industry, the Indian IT and ITeS companies are expected to recruit as many as 1,50,000 experts during the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
