Wipro inaugurates Australian Development Centre in Melbourne
Close on the heels of Infosys, India’s second largest IT and BPO service provider, opening its development centre in Australia last week, Wipro has inaugurated a new Australian Development Centre in Melbourne with a view to spread out its business in the island continent and neighboring regions. The new centre of Wipro, India’s third largest IT and BPO service provider in terms of revenue, will offer consulting, testing, software development and business process facilities to domestic as well as international firms in Australia.
Quoting, the head of sales and operations, Wipro Asia Pacific, Rajat Mathur, a website reports that the firm was happy to be augmenting its outlay in Australia by setting up the new operational hub in Melbourne. He said that the company selected Melbourne for its favorable business milieu, available expertise as well as its outstanding infrastructure. Mathur further added that the new centre in Melbourne will have a vital responsibility in expanding the firms business in Australia, where the industry has demonstrated a continuous desire for their international deliverance model.
While several IT and BPO service providers like Infosys, Attra, Kovairand BIT have already generated 210 new jobs in Victoria, the strength of Wipro’s employees too have increased from 450 to 700 in a couple of years, and half of them are positioned in Victoria. In fact, Victoria hosts an intense ICT industry sector with more than 84,000 employees, who account for over a third of Australia's ICT products, services and revenue.
Meanwhile, a report published in an Indian business daily said that Wipro has merged the branch offices of two subsidiaries abroad – the Cyprus-based WM NetServ and Wipro Networks Singapore with the global IT and BPO service provider. While WMNetServ is a managed network telecommunications facilities vendor, Wipro Networks offers communication solutions including voice, consulting, data and congregated solutions and managed facilities.
