Wipro to Spike Local Staff in Australia on Heightened Business Opportunities
Though India's third biggest outsourcing firm, Wipro Ltd. made its entry into the Australian IT outsourcing market relatively late, the stellar outsourcer is making plans to hire more locals to augment its payroll in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes Japan and India.
Reports say that Wipro is making an attempt to make a big impact in Australia's lucrative IT market. Already the company has 90 employees from Australia on its pay roll at the present time. That figure is expected to go up to 250 toward the end of the fiscal year.
Senior VP for Asia Pacific, Wipro Technologies, Rajat Mathur, said in an online report by Business Standard, Australia is a huge market in the Asia Pacific, adding that Wipro is bullish on Australia's IT activity and is ready to invest further there. Adding employees to the two development centers located in Australia is part of Wipro's strategy to enhance its presence in the country. This would increase the number of locals working for Wipro from 20 percent to 35 percent.
Wipro sees an incline in business opportunities in the region with close to 350 employees working for Aussie clients at various locations in India. The total number of people working for Australian clients is expected to skyrocket to a whopping 1000 staff by the end of the fiscal year. Wipro's strategy includes concentrating on specific industries like energy and utilities, banking and insurance, retail, telecom and government in the Australian continent. The Indian firm came into Australia about 8 years ago and it obtains almost 15 percent of its revenue from the Asia Pacific locale.
